Board Briefs

We hope all of our families had a safe and fun Halloween! Thanks to all of our teams who showed support for breast cancer awareness month during October, whether visibly, financially, or both. Breast cancer either has, or does, affect several members of our organization; your support is appreciated.

As many of you know, November is Hockey Fights Cancer month and you can find information about ways to
show your support here. Stay in touch with your team manager to see how your team is planning to spread awareness about this great cause as well.

We had an incredible Try Hockey For Free event this past weekend, with over 100 kids on the ice! Hockey is alive and well in San Antonio, and we can't wait to see how all San Antonio youth hockey programs develop to support these very interested future players! These events "take a village" to organize and run, so we'd like to thank all of our volunteers, both on and off the ice, as well as our partners, for helping make the event a success.

Fiscal Forecasts

Mark your calendars for November 12th thru 14th and let Stout's Pizza make dinner for the family. Hockey + Wine? What's not to love?! Check out the flyer for which discounts are available on which day, and most importantly, share it on social media! Fundraisers like this are successful when we spread the word outside our organization.

Shout out to Cody Keairns for bringing Tru Love Coffee to our Try Hockey For Free event. The owner is a hockey player and fan of the San Antonio Jr. Rampage, and is kicking back a portion of proceeds to us!

We are selling DASHER BOARDS! Know of an interested local company? Please reach out to Jesse Feragen and LeAnn Riveron for details on how to make it happen. You can contact them here.

We are still looking for all parents interested in helping create sustainable, repeatable fundraisers to help keep costs down for our families over time. Please sign up here.

Commissioner's Corner

REMINDER: It is never acceptable under any circumstances for a parent to reach out to DSTHL directly; not through a DSTHL email address, not through DSTHL's contact portal on their website, and not through any other means. This is clearly listed in our organization's Parent Code of Conduct, and is a direct mandate from DSTHL. The only two people DSTHL communicates with, from every participating organization, is that organization's President and Commissioner. Please consider this the SECOND setting of this expectation.

STATISTICS: Please remember that this is youth hockey. Especially at the younger age divisions, it is a disservice to our kids to focus on every goal and assist. That being said, if something needs to be changed on a scoresheet from a game, the deadline in which to do so is within 24 hours of the conclusion of that game. Communicating with your Team Manager is the start of that process, and the league will only consider it if it affects a patch or award for that player. Keep hockey FUN for the kids!

SPORT MANAGEMENT: For the past decade or more, SportsEngine has been the sport management platform for our organization. After much thought and consideration, most of which began with and included member and TM feedback, we have decided to make a change. A contract was recently signed with Crossbar and we will begin a migration process that we anticipate will be ready at the conclusion of this travel season. We hope to make this a smooth and painless transition for your experience.

SportsEngine vs. Crossbar

Here are commonly cited points when users and admins compare the two platforms:

  • Mobile-friendly: Crossbar excels, SportsEngine lags behind.
  • Pricing: Crossbar cheaper ($995/year, 1.99%+$0.99 fees vs $1,299, 3.25%+$2.00).
  • User ratings: Crossbar 4.64/5 stars, SportsEngine 4.26/5.
  • Features: Crossbar offers more flexible payments, easier scheduling.

10U Spotlight

As we express our gratitude this November, the 10U Jr Rampage team would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to our indispensable Team Manager, Tegan Walsh.

A successful hockey team relies not just on the players and coaches, but also on the unwavering support of its team manager. Tegan exemplifies this role with excellence, working diligently behind the scenes to ensure that everything runs seamlessly.

From coordinating on and off ice events to organizing travel logistics, Tegan's efforts are endless. She also communicates with parents, coaches, and other team officials to ensure everyone is on the same page.

But Tegan's contribution goes beyond just the logistical aspects, Tegan’s positive attitude and steadfast support significantly enhance the team's morale. She is always there to offer encouragement, address any concerns, and provide solutions to unexpected challenges. Her commitment to the team’s success is evident in everything she does.

This November, as we reflect on what we are thankful for, the 10U Jr Rampage team is especially grateful for Tegan Walsh. Her hard work, dedication, and passion are the backbone of our team, and her contributions are invaluable.

Thank you, Tegan, for your tireless efforts and for being an essential part of our team. We deeply appreciate everything you do.

14U Spotlight

The 14U team has had a strong start to the season, securing four impressive wins in their first four games. With players hailing from eight different teams previously, the group has managed to come together thanks to the coaches’ strong emphasis on teamwork over individual accolades. The result? Every player has made their mark on the scoreboard, with goals and assists coming from all corners of the roster. It’s been a great start—keep the momentum going!

It's go-time for 14U!
