Parent Q&A about Youth Hockey in Texas

Recap from May 17th meeting

Good discussion last night.  For those who weren't there, the consensus was that the Stars league is the way to go(althought no votes were cast).  It is the more solid and stable option.  We accepted the invitation to that league and paid our deposit on deadline last week.  The SWSS, which has been created basically from scratch since then, has interesting features and is an intriguing option, but we don't see a reason at this point to change directions.

Where we left it is that the board will continue to closely monitor the situation, and if we believe that facts develop that warrant another parent meeting we will call one.  Otherwise, all should plan on playing in the DSTHL this year.  If anyone has questions, feel free to text or email me.

For those who were there, sorry I didn't have the chart I promised listing who is going where.  It was a crazy couple of hours before I got to the rink and I was a little discombobulated.  Anyway, based on what I know now, here is how the two leagues are stacking up.

Stars league (Normal league play)

Alliance
Allen Americans
Aces
Austin
BAHAA Hounds
Brahmas
DJHA Penguins
Grapevine Wolves
Dallas Stars Selects and Elite
OKC
Rampage
Houston Wild

Southwest series (Tournament Style play with ranking system)

Hitmen
Ice Jets
Oilers
McKinney
Lafayette
Amarillo
Odessa

Tulsa is on both lists.  I have not talked to them so I'm not sure which way they are leaning.

Hockey League for 2012-2013 season?

Q&A meeting May 17th 7pm Northwoods ice center

A lot has been happening with youth hockey in Texas the last couple of weeks. Several Dallas organizations broke from NTXHL and formed the Dallas Stars Travel Hockey League. Last Thursday, the Stars league circulated an information package to all teams, which is attached to this email. It is very informative, and well worth a read. We have been asked to join that league, and filed our letter of intent to join that league by the deadline, which was last Friday. Over the weekend, other organizations that either were not invited to join the Stars league or which concluded that their situation was better served by saying no to the Stars have been working on an alternative. They expect to announce that alternative today or tomorrow. The NTXHL looks like it will go away, because there is no one left to play in it. All of this has been happening very quickly.

I have been talking daily with teams and organizations all across the state, and the board has been communicating regularly about these developments and what they mean. More than once, I have started to draft a parent communication only to see it become outdated by new events before it was done. We are sure that parents have questions. To answer them, and to update parents on how it looks like the landscape is going to settle out, we are going to host a parent Q&A at 7 tomorrow (Thursday) at Northwoods, during the spring house sessions. Hope you can make it.
