“On behalf of USA Hockey, I would like to congratulate you for being the grand prize winner of the Hockey Weekend Across America CCM Incentive Program!
Your Try Hockey For Free event in February had the most total new (never before registered with USAH) first time player between the ages of 4 to 9. As the grand prize winner, you will receive 40 helmets and 40 gloves from CCM.”
This was the email that John Long, Grow the Game Committee Chair, received from Shannon Webster at USA Hockey.
Over 300 hockey associations participated in Try Hockey For Free in February, and San Antonio was rated number one with the most new participants and new registrations.
Over 80 children donned a pair of skates, helmets, and gloves to take to the ice; making both the Fall and Winter events two of the most successful Try Hockey For Free Days for San Antonio youth hockey. Parents of young children commented on the encouragement and helpfulness their children received from the travel hockey players and were encouraged to continue with skating.
Thank you to all the volunteers, parents and skaters, who donated their time and abilities to make each event a success and to help grow hockey in the future.
