New to Hockey? Looking to get Started?

Whether your child is brand new to the ice or has only just begun to  successfully stand and stop on the ice, Northwoods is the place for you!  While SAYHA and the Jr. Rampage do not offer beginner classes, Northwoods has age and skill appropriate classes through its Learn to Skate Program for any beginner ice hockey player.

Once basic skills are learned, skaters may progress to the hockey 1 and hockey 2 Learn to Skate programs.  Designed to help your hockey player learn the basics of skating before attempting to play, this program is offered to ages 5-16, and is a prerequisite for the youth Hockey Dynamics classes.

READY TO TRANSITION TO TRAVEL HOCKEY & THE JR. RAMPAGE?

San Antonio Youth Hockey Association teams play under the banner of the Jr. Rampage.  Our teams compete in the highly competitive Dallas Stars Travel Hockey League (DSTHL) at the House/Recreation & Tier II levels.  Substantial travel is involved as our teams compete across the Texas during the regular season (approximately 20 games) and playoffs.  The High School team completes in the Interscholastic Hockey League (ISHL) in Houston.

Travel hockey at this level is community based.    This means all players must play for their nearest / local TAHA registered organization.  For information regarding regarding Texas Hockey and the community based rules, please visit https://www.tahahockey.org.  For specific rules regarding the Out-of-Community rule can be found at https://www.tahahockey.org/out-of-community.

RAMPAGE ROUNDUP

The annual Jr. Rampage Roundup is an annual preseason prospect camp open to 10U and 12U players.   The event is intended to provide an opportunity for our younger players to experience interactions with coaches and drills similar to what would be seen during a typical Jr. Rampage tryout.  This event is highly recommended for our younger players considering attending the tryout events.  Specifics regarding the event are released annually on our main page.

JR. RAMPAGE TRYOUTS!

Tryouts are competitive and typically consist of two tryout sessions held in early to mid summer. Every player, regardless of previous team history and experience, must tryout for each season.  For information regarding tryouts and associated player costs, please visit our 2023-2024 Tryout information site.
