STEP 2: Learn How To Skate

Whether your child is brand new to the ice or has only just begun to successfully stand and stop on the ice, Northwoods Ice & Golf Center is the place for you! While SAYHA and the Jr. Rampage do not offer beginner classes, Northwoods has age and skill appropriate classes through its Learn to Skate Program for any beginner ice hockey player.

Once basic ice skating skills are learned, skaters may progress to the Hockey 1 and Hockey 2 Learn to Skate programs. Designed to help your hockey player learn the basics of hockey skating before attempting to play the game, this program is offered to ages 5-16.

Please contact Northwoods with any questions regarding their Learn to Skate Programs.

STEP 3: Play Some Hockey

After a successful completion of Hockey Learn to Skate, participants can move on to the Hockey Dynamics program at Northwoods. This program is intended for those who have obtained the skating fundamentals and wish to further hone their skills allowing for easy adjustment into the Northwoods Youth House Leagues.

After Hockey Dynamics, Northwoods offers four Youth Leagues organized by age. This is includes the 5-8 year old Mites, 9-10 year old squirts, 11-12 year old Peewees, and 13-18 year old combined Bantam/Midgets. The league programs will challenge players to develop their individual skills and bond with teammates during practices and live game scenarios.

STEP 4: Tryout for Travel Hockey

San Antonio Youth Hockey Association teams play under the banner of the Jr. Rampage. Our teams compete in the highly competitive Dallas Stars Travel Hockey League (DSTHL) at the House/Recreation & Tier II levels. Substantial travel is involved as our teams compete across Texas during the regular season and playoffs. The High School team completes in the Interscholastic Hockey League (ISHL) in Houston.

The annual Jr. Rampage Roundup is an annual preseason prospect camp open to 10U and 12U players. The event is intended to provide an opportunity for our younger players to experience interactions with coaches and drills similar to what would be seen during a typical Jr. Rampage tryout. This event is highly recommended for our younger players considering attending the tryout events. Specifics regarding the event are released annually on our main page.
