Skate for a Cure

Skate for the Cure – Charity Hockey Event

We are excited to invite players and families to participate in Skate for the Cure, a fun and meaningful afternoon of charity hockey benefiting the Blood Cancer United fundraiser on February 28, 2026.

🏒 Player Participation Details

We are inviting players from the following age groups:

  • 10U – Birth years 2015–2016
  • 12U – Birth years 2013–2014
  • 14U – Birth years 2011–2012
  • 16U – Birth years 2010–2009

We are seeking 20 players per age group, with each group skating in one 20-minute period. Registration is first come, first served. Goalies are also needed. Click here to sign up.

Cost to participate: $25 per player

100% of proceeds go directly to Sam’s fundraiser supporting Blood Cancer United.
Each player will leave the ice with a Blood Cancer United jersey to keep.
Each player will also receive a wristband to attend the UTSA Men’s Hockey vs. LSU Men’s Hockey final game.

🎟️ Event Admission & Donations

To help maximize our impact, we kindly ask that all attendees make a donation in order to attend the event. A minimum donation of $10 per attendee is requested, and any additional support is greatly appreciated. Click here to grab your tickets.

Please note that registering a player for the event does not include admission for parents, family members, or other guests. Parents and spectators are asked to make their own donation to attend.

🎸 Entertainment Lineup

We’re thrilled to have live entertainment during the event:

  • Brian Meehan (210Guitars): 4:00–6:00 PM
  • Garrett Talamantes: 6:00–7:00 PM

Garrett will also be performing the National Anthem for the UTSA vs. LSU game.

💜 A Message from the event organizer, Sam

Hello everyone,

My name is Samantha Ochoa Tovar, Reagan High School Class of 2027. Over the next seven weeks, you’ll be hearing a lot from me.

In addition to my academic and sports activities, I work with children. I’ve seen how strong they can be, and I love their smiles and laughter. No child should have to struggle or worry about dealing with blood cancer while growing up.

There are over 1.6 million Americans currently battling or in remission from blood cancer. That’s why I’m stepping up to make a difference—but I can’t do it alone.

My goal is to raise $35,000 by our Grand Finale on March 7, 2026, with donations going directly toward patient support.
